The Mayfly Club held it's annual fly tying exhibit and get-together on Friday May 16th at the Riverside Cafe on the bank of the famous Beaver Kill.
Danny and Tammy, owners of the Riverside would like to host the meetingagain next year and suggest we hold it on a Saturday so that many people coming in on a Friday evening for the weekend would be able to attend. It was a very busy day early with a half a dozen people waiting to get inat the eleven o'clock A.M. opening. Authors Art Lee and Paul Whillock sold and signed books. Dave Means and Jim Wells of Carman River Custom Designhad a large table full of uniquely built tying tools that drew much interest from the spectators. They donated several items for our raffle. Raffle ticket sales were brisk for the main prize of the demonstrating tyer's flies with signature cards and additional prizes. Although he couldn't attend Jackson Leone sent in a very nicely tied realistic Crab Spider. We had close to a dozen prizes in all. Judie DVS also donated a first edition book. Several members were unable to attend. President Thorton was on an exotic photo shoot, Miss Damsel Fly had some family health issues to attend to and senior member Ralphie Graves got a bug of sorts. Whatever it was, it attacked his backside and it was enough of an irritation that he didn't attend. We certainly hope all original members will make it next year. Guest Tyer Linda Reper wowed everyone with her tiny size 18 to size 28 deer hair mice. They were the hit of the show! There is a minor problem of space for tyers and next year we may have to draw names for guest tyers, or possibly open more of the main dining room. All attending enjoyed themselves often asking if there were any memberships available and if tyers were needed for next year. I referred them to this site. It was the start of the Holiday weekend, Memorial Day, and by Friday evening all well known pools on the river were lined with anglers. Member, Ted Patlen, the club jester, made it down for the fishing and stated he is retiring this year and swears he will never miss another tying shindig. One of our guest tyers, Bruce Corwin, took a number of pictures in the afternoon when things slowed down - click here to see Bruces Photographs. Thanks Bruce, you did a great job, Steve T. Paul Whillock, due to a number of unusual circumstances, found himself at the Newark airport for seven and a half hours Thursday waiting for his ride up to Roscoe. He spent Friday night after the show with member Dave Brandt and spent Saturday fishing with the club jester and taking some photos of Patlen and Brandt for another project he is working on. Between the jet lag, lack of sleep, and long wait Paul was in an amazingly mellow mood. Somehow everyone made it home safely.

Best regards, Bob Mead
